National Nurses Week
May 6th, 2020 - May 12, 2020
Megan Tantillo, RN
Happy National Nurses Week to all of my incredible nursing friends. Thank you for doing what you do! You deserve much more than a week of recognition!
In fact, you deserve a year! The World Health Organization declared 2020 the International Year of the Nurse in honor of the 200th anniversary of Florence Nightingale’s birthday, the founder of modern nursing.
Florence Nightingale was a visionary and a true leader in nursing and healthcare.
She recognized the importance of hand washing long before the “germ theory” was accepted and even spaced her patients 6 feet apart to prevent them from touching each other. #socialdistancing
Nightingale’s work to improve hygiene and sanitation practices influenced worldwide healthcare reform and solidified nursing as a valued profession.
Florence Nightingale advised nurses to develop true and meaningful friendships, recruit others into the field of nursing, and advocated for nurses to step into leadership roles in healthcare.
Nurses fulfill many roles in global healthcare and are recognized now more than ever for their extraordinary work in caring, educating and advocating for their patients.
This week we celebrate all the incredible nurses, especially those on the frontlines of this pandemic, who dedicate their lives to caring for others.
I have never been more proud to be a nurse.
Drop a comment below if you or someone you know is a nurse!
