Dr. Meg’s Story

 

Learn how Dr. Meg found holistic care and answers to her chronic health symptoms.

It all started shortly after college. My periods were painful and severe. I struggled with disrupting symptoms on and off the Pill. 

Over the years I saw several different types of providers, and my symptoms before and after my period were normalized and dismissed. I was prescribed birth control to manage symptoms which ultimately made me feel worse.


Nothing against the Pill, it just wasn’t working for me, and my providers weren’t listening or suggesting an alternative option for me.

I felt crazy. 


I had constant bloating and belly pain, gained weight despite strict diet and exercise, and my skin started to break out like it hadn’t before with cysts along my jawline and back in a predictable worsening pattern before my period. 

Through my pursuit to feel better and find answers, I consulted with holistic providers who helped me start to put the pieces together. I discovered there were underlying root causes to my period problems, many I could control or treat, and feel better. 

 
 

I was treated for bacterial imbalances in my gut causing inflammation, corrected hormone imbalances like insulin resistance and progesterone deficiency, and resolved micronutrient deficiencies that impacted my ability to detox hormones and toxins that I didn’t even realize at the time were disrupting my health in a big way.

I was taught food is medicine and followed a therapeutic paleo diet to reclaim my health. I couldn’t believe how good I felt, and how hard it had been for me to get there on my own.


With these diet and lifestyle changes, I felt like I cracked the secret code to health and became the passionate healthy friend selling protein shakes and sharing hormone hacks online.


Wanting to integrate my passion for health and my career, I went back to school to become a nurse, and soon met the reality of our sick care model.

I cared for many chronically sick people, which ultimately led to a lapse in my own health, and burnout within two years of joining the nursing workforce. 

I needed to feel more aligned with my work and values, so I enrolled in a graduate program and refocused my career on health coaching and helping people live well.

I became a health coach and helped women optimize their hormone health through nutrition, stress management, sleep hygiene, cycle syncing and healthy relationships. 

I developed and spear-headed group coaching programs and measured how health coaching helped people reach their goals and feel better faster.



Blown away by the success of health coaching, I started sharing my work and client outcomes on social media and built a health coaching practice helping women feel their best online.

My online coaching practice Holistic Health Code, has since evolved to a holistic and functional medicine practice, helping families treat the root cause of their symptoms and stay well online or in-person.


The membership is holistic care designed to treat the root cause of symptoms and coach you to achieve sustainable and long-lasting health improvements.


With our holistic approach, there are many conditions we are able to successfully treat.

Our members are people who value a proactive, collaborative, whole-body approach to their health care, many seeking help for fertility and hormone health, autoimmune illness, preconception, pregnancy or postpartum care, emotional wellness or digestive health.

I am incredibly grateful for my holistic health journey, because it introduced me to a whole new way of life and approach to caring for myself and others. 🥹
